UK Music, the new umbrella organisation representing the music industry has outlined its goals.

Top of UK Music's list is persuading the government to take on board its suggestions to tackle file sharing of music over the internet. It will also carry out more research on how music fans consume music digitally.

Early next year it will launch a 'Music Industry Manifesto' to explain the range of government support it believes is needed to ensure the prosperity of the music and other creative industries.

In the run up to that, in December this year, UK Music will host what it's billing as the world's first Creator's Conference, bringing together artists, songwriters and composers with policy makers in the UK and Europe whose decisions impact upon their livelihoods.

Education is also a priority with continued support for the Young Enterprise Quickstart Music programme, as well as the government's initiative to expand access to rehearsal spaces.

It will also be supporting teachers, covering changes to the music curriculum at KS3 with a brand new free online resource called Sound Rights. It provides a range of activities to help teachers and students understand copyright and learn more about the music industry.
