User profile: Andrea Green

For 25 years, I have been working with children, directing my musicals, for the purpose of not only artistic objectives, but for teaching tolerance and for social change. I conduct workshops for teachers, directors and kids...using my songs and (12) plays...and have notated scores, published librettos and resource guides, that I have created to help others produce my shows. I have also created fully orchestrated rehearsal and performance C.D.'s. I have a Bachelor's degree in music and I am a music therapist. I have a master's in Creative Arts in Therapy. My musicals have been performed in a variety of venues...in hundreds in schools across the U.S. and also on professional stages. Last year, my musical, BLUE LOU AND THE BULLYFISH, was produced on Broadway, by the American Musical Theatre FEstival. My work with special needs children, was featured in the emmy-award winning documentary, SOMETHING MAGICAL.

Interests:
I write musicals for kids that are Broadway style...with themes of tolerance and understanding differences. I want to bring them to children throughout the world. I am particularly focused on showing teachers, directors, etc...how ALL children need to be featured...and how the musical theatre cast should be a supportive entity...that allows all the individuals the opportunity to perform and grow through the theatre process. EVERYONE IS IMPORTANT. Not just a few.

"It's not the heroic gestures but the small daily acts of leadership that make change," says the Music Manifesto's Marc Jaffrey. Do you agree?
