As Britain's oldest professional symphony orchestra, the Hallé's unique collaboration is a momentous project which will be striving to unite the expanded music services of the boroughs of Manchester, Salford, Bolton and Stockport to create innovative work to inspire the young people based in these areas.
The partnership's manifesto aims to offer all children and young people greater opportunities to explore and be part of making music across all styles. The message is one of nurturing children's imaginations, confidence and appetite for learning through the experience of group performance, which can teach invaluable lessons in taking risks, working as part of a team and the enormous sense of achievement felt through live performance.
A range of activities are planned to support youth learning at all levels with a special focus on those students at the transition ages of Key Stages 2 and 3, when children leave primary school to join secondary schools.
These activities will include:
- Giving children access to high quality musical performances
- Expanding the opportunities for children to learn an instrument for the first time through the much-acclaimed Wider Opportunities programme
- Supporting young instrumental learners both in and out of school through workshops and masterclasses
- Working together with practitioners from performing and teaching backgrounds so that they can share experiences, expertise and shape the creative programme
